Karen Walter is Head of Compliance Prevention & Advisory at Allianz Group in Germany. Her responsibility includes the development and maintenance of group-wide compliance frameworks, as well as the provision of advice and training, to prevent compliance violations in the areas of financial crime (economic sanctions, AML, bribery and fraud), sales compliance (primarily related to the retail distribution of insurance and other financial instruments), market integrity (capital markets, antitrust and conflicts of interest) as well as Solvency II compliance. Prior to joining Allianz in 2015, Karen was Senior Counsel at Siemens in Munich, where she provided legal advice on equity capital markets matters. She has also worked as Legal Counsel at Hapag-Lloyd AG, a global container shipping and logistics company. Prior to these in-house positions, Karen was an associate in the New York and Frankfurt offices of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, where she primarily represented banks and other financial institutions on IPOs, structured debt and other types of public or private financial transactions. Karen is a member of the Bar of New York. She has been living and working in Germany for over 20 years. Prior to that, she had spent half her life in New York City and the other half in the UK.
